28 Days of Loving God -Day 5

28 Days of Loving God – Day 5

Beloved, there is nothing sweeter than a baby lamb. A baby sheep is called a lamb. A female sheep over a year old is called a ewe, while a male is called a ram. A flock is a group of sheep. My nephew has sheep, and the lambs are precious. The word sheep is in the Bible at least 200 times, lamb 191 times, ram 256 times, and ewe eight times.

Sweet friend, one of the first verses I memorized was Isaiah 53:6,

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 52:6. KJV.

Of course, sheep need a shepherd to keep them safe. Jesus is our shepherd.

Psalm 23 is the most famous passage about a shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

John 10 speaks to Jesus as a shepherd knowing his sheep by name.

I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. John 10:14. KJV.

Beloved, lastly, in the Old Testament, the blood of an unblemished lamb, or a ram, or a sheep was offered as a sin offering. In the New Testament, Jesus became that sin offering when he died and on the cross, and he defeated death and is alive at the right hand of God. You see, God delivered us from sin,

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 1 Corinthians 5:21.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.

In church, we used to sing a song, What can wash away our sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make us whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus?

Jesus is the Lamb of God,

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.  John 1:29. KJV.

Sweet Friend, who is Jesus to you?

God loves us so much that He gave us His son. Thank you for loving you, Lord.

Father God, thank you for the perfect shepherd Jesus to lead, guide and direct us. In Jesus’s name, amen.
