Did you ever play the whisper game? You start with one person and whisper something in their ear and then that person passes it on until one gets to the last person and rarely what was originally whispered is what was heard.
One of my favorite bible verses is Psalm 46:10:
“Be still and know I am God, I will be exalted among the heathen,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
