In this advent season, today is the long-awaited day of lighting the Christ candle. As I light my Christ candle, I ponder our time together. The message of advent started as a promise to read Ann Voskamp’s book The Greatest Gift. This seemed important as we spent November thanking God for a few of our favorite things.
Breathe and watch the flicker of your candle. Breathe in God and exhale the rush that occurred getting ready for your family. Perhaps, as the candle flickers, you can count your blessings and name them one by one. Perhaps, you can pray and praise God for His many attributes and blessings.
The candles make a soft glow my purple, pink, and now my white candle. I am sad that the lighting of the candles is ending and I wonder what would happen if we continue to light candles as we worship, as we read this devotional, and as we read our bible.
Christ fully God, fully man. Christ fully human, fully God. Christ left his heavenly glory and he came as a baby. He experienced life and yet he never sinned. He was in commune with God and God communed with Him. There was no room in the Inn for Mary and Joseph. Jesus born in a stable, laid in a manager. Today, there are many who do not have room for Jesus. They are too busy to see the bright star that shines as it did two thousand years ago. But the three wise men followed the star seeking Jesus. Will you follow the star? Will you seek Jesus?
I am in awe of his majesty. I am in awe of His love for us that he was willing to give up his rights as God’s son so that I have eternal rights because as I light my Christ candle, Jesus is the reason for the season. Blessings.
