Advent-4

Rainbow

I love rainbows. The beautiful sky usually has storm clouds, a patch of sunshine and  the rainbow. Today’s reading in The Greatest Gift is of a time when the Lord was sad he had created people. The world was full of wickedness.

The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6:6-8

The Lord’s heart was filled with pain. Noah found favor. Noah built an ark. In Genesis 6:22 Noah did everything God told him to do. Then it was time to load the ark.

The Lord told Noah that he would send rain. And the rain came 40 days and 40 nights and the flood destroyed everything and everyone except Noah and his family and the animals. When it was the right time God opened the door to the ark and Noah worshiped God.

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.” Genesis 9:12-17

Ann VosKamp says, “Every flood of stress is an invitation to get into the ark of our Savior. Every flood of trouble remakes the topography of our souls–making us better or bitter. Every trouble is a flood, and we can either rise up or sink down. And getting our days all into the ark of Christ always lets us still rise.”

She asks, “When have you felt flooded, overwhelmed by the waters rising around you?”

Friend we have a God that cares. 1 Peter 5:7   He cared so much for Noah’s family that He made a covenant with them and gave them a sign or the rainbow so they would not be afraid.

Jesus is the gift this season. Jesus Name Above all Names.

What can you do for God today?  He is with us.
