Adventures on the dusty road include radiance from the Son.

Beloved, today, on the dusty road, I saw two flags flying high. The wind was blowing and the flag was stunningly waving. In the midst of what is happening in the world, seeing the flag reassured me that God is in control. My husband has been driving me to work but today I drove myself down our dusty road.

When I am driving myself, I listen to different music and sermons. More on this later.

The verse today is one of my favorites,

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful words. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Hebrews 1:3

Our word today is radiance and the definition of radiance is light or heat as emitted or reflected by something. The word radiance is in the Bible 4 times.

Read this verse,

Then the glory of the Lord rose from above the cherubim and moved to the threshold of the temple. The cloud filled the temple, and the court was full of the radiance of the glory of the Lord. Ezekiel 10:4.

Thoughts

Beloved, do you know your Bible well enough to recognize a lie? We have to be aware and not fall prey to the lies that are being posted, or preached. Recently, a friend posted a prayer on Facebook and basically it was a beautiful prayer, but something was wrong. As I read the statement again, the person was misusing scripture.

My dusty road experience at work today involved the follow up of the man that the code blue was called, he is doing better. Then, I met with several other families and was able to offer support. However, the amazing thing is that as we were in rounds, the someone was sharing Biblical knowledge based on another faith, and so when he said Ishmael was offered as a sacrifice, I corrected him and told him Abraham offered Issac and then God provided a ram for the sacrifice. Beloved, I knew this detail because I just finished reading Genesis again this last week.

Our road quote comes from the Bible,

The road the righteous travel is like the sunrise, getting brighter and brighter until daylight has come. Proverbs 4:18

Getting back to the sermon that I heard on my way home was on Romans 8. Beloved, friend, Romans 8 is an important chapter. The sermon was by Jack Graham, and he shared many points.

  • No condemnation for the believer
  • because of the Holy Spirit we do not have to sin
  • the Holy Spirit lives in us
  • we are able to call God, “Abba, Father”–Daddy
  • we are co-heirs with Christ.
  • all things work together for those who are called
  • nothing can separate you from the love of God.

Quite honestly, I wanted to cry, listening affirmed what I know but having just seen the flag flying my heart was really touched by the Holy Spirit. You see my sweet friend, we are free in Christ because Christ was obedient and was willing to die on the cross for our sins.

Who can you encourage today? Are you able to listen to what is being said and defend your faith?

What dusty road does God have you walking? Is there radiance in your step?

Prayer

Father God, thank you that Jesus is the radiance of our lives. Thank you that Jesus paid for our sins. Thank you that we have the Holy Spirit that enlightens us and prays for us.  Today, I ask that if anyone is weary in her journey, that she will seek you for rest. If anyone is hurting, you will alleviate her pain. If anyone is wondering if life is worth the struggle, she will feel your love. Thank you for loving us with an everlasting love and for sending the Holy Spirit to convict, and comfort. May we trust you in all we do and say. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
