Beloved, is your name mispronounced, misspelled, or are you called something other than your name? You are not alone, my dad named me Diana Gail, the middle name to rhyme with Dale. My mom had wanted to call me Lisa but there was a song that was popular and Grandma did not want me to be named after Mona Lisa.
While mom was in recovery, the nurses asked my dad what my name and I was given the name, Diana. My poor mom did not get to name my brother either. However, I am called Diane most of the time. I have corrected some and I introduce myself as Diana.
Today our reading is Genesis 15- 17 and we delve into the covenant between God and Abram.
I love Genesis 15:1, God reassures Abram of His love.
After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. Genesis 15:1
Have you ever had a question for God that you don’t ask but finally you ask the question? Read Abram’s question in Genesis 15.
And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. Genesis 15: 2-3.
Some of my questions are regarding my health, my finances, and my relationships. But I have to admit, I have not always asked the Lord my questions, I just suffer from uncertainty.
The Lord answers Abram and tells him he will have many descendants,
And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. Genesis 15: 4-5.
Abram accepts God’s answer, not only did he accept, he believed God.
And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Genesis 15:6.
What are you believing the Lord for?
God changes Abram name in Genesis 17. He is now known as Abraham.
My something old was about his name change, my something new is the dream Abraham had in Genesis 15. My something to do is to count my blessings.
