Avoid the Pitfalls

The word for the day was avoid. So, I avoided writing about the word avoid. I’m really good at putting my head in the sand, to avoid things. The most difficult thing for me is conflict. I avoid conflict.

Avoid

Scripture

And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice. 1 Samuel 18: 11

Psalm 7

Thoughts

King David was chased by King Saul. He wrote Psalm 7, 27, 31, 34 and 52 while running from King Saul. He avoided him and was even in the same cave as King Saul was in but spared King Saul’s life.

King David cries to the Lord in verse 1 of this Psalm, “O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:”

What do you need to be saved from or delivered from?

David declares his own righteousness by asking God to judge him if he is in the wrong.

David reflects and then declares his dependence on God.

Read the last verse with me, “I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.”

Conclusion

I’ve learned that God is with us in conflict, sometimes we need to avoid saying something that will make things worse and sometimes we need to face the situation head on and not avoid the conflict.

I am aware that I avoid uncomfortable situations. I love God and together we can face the concerns, we need not to avoid but cast our cares on Jesus.

Father God, help me to avoid the pitfalls of Satan’s traps. Help me to speak in love. In Jesus name, Amen

What have you avoided?
