Be Thankful-5

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. … I Thessalonians 5:18

 

 

 

I decided to not complain for the month of November. Today is November 5 and I found myself grumbling today. God instructs us to take our thoughts captive to the Lord. So what would it look like if the thought came in that was negative and before we complained we recognized that the thought was not edifying and we changed the thought to a kind thought. Wah la! we then have an attitude of gratitude. We are being thankful in all circumstances.

Moses wrote Psalm 90, if anyone had the right to complain, Moses did because he led the Israelites out of Egypt and the people of Israel had complaining down to a science. Moses teaches us in Psalm 90 to number our days so that we may get a heart of wisdom.

When my boys were at home, I would wake them with a song, “Rise and Shine and give God the glory, glory, rise and shine give God the glory. Rise and Shine and give God the glory, glory. Children of the Lord.” By the end of the song, the pillow was on their heads shutting out my enthusiasm. But to this day they remember how I woke them up.

So today, I am thankful that I recognized I was breaking a wish to not complain and that I know the remedy is to take my thought captive so the Lord can deal with my stinking thinking.

Father God, the blessings we have are many. Please forgive me for complaining when the blessing I have been given deserve gratitude. Thank you Lord for my family, my friends, for the person reading this prayer. Help each of us this month savor our relationship with you. Today I am thankful for my job, I am thankful that I have a car-pool buddy to ride with today. I am thankful for Your word that declares promises for each one of us. I am thankful for Jesus for His dying on the cross for my sins so that I have eternal life.
