Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don’t expect, the Son of Man will come. Matthew 24:44
Background
Exodus 34: 27 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write down all these instructions, for they represent the terms of the covenant I am making with you and with Israel.”
28Moses remained there on the mountain with the LORD forty days and forty nights. In all that time he ate no bread and drank no water. And the LORDg wrote the terms of the covenant—the Ten Commandmentsh—on the stone tablets.
29When Moses came down Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant,i he wasn’t aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the LORD. 30So when Aaron and the people of Israel saw the radiance of Moses’ face, they were afraid to come near him.
31But Moses called out to them and asked Aaron and all the leaders of the community to come over, and he talked with them. 32Then all the people of Israel approached him, and Moses gave them all the instructions the LORD had given him on Mount Sinai.
My five-minutes of thoughts on the word Expect
Go.
I expect more from myself than I do of others. I think Moses expected more from himself than the Israelites. He never expected to become so angry that he broke the first set of tablets. He never expected that the Israelites would fashion a golden calf much less worship an idol. He never expected Aaron to go along with the Israelites demands for a god to follow. He never expected that his second forty days with the Lord would leave him with his face so radiant caused fear among the people. However, what He did expect was God to go with the Israelites on the rest of the journey. He did expected God to keep them safe and to give what they needed. He did expect to visit God and he did expect that he would build a tabernacle just as God had given him the instructions the first time he was alone with God for forty days.
Jesus is going to come again, just as Moses came back down the mountain. We do not know what day it will be and it may not be in my lifetime but Jesus promised if he went to prepare a place for us, we can expect that He will come to take us to Him. John 14:2
Stop.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6
