JESUS therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word, then you truly disciples of Mine, and you shall know the truth shall Free.” John 8: 31-32
The story of the Israelites continues in the book of Numbers. Then the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai. Moses was told to take a census of all the sons of Israel for all the men who were twenty years older and able to go to war. The Israelites camped under the names of their fathers around the tent of meeting at a distance. In Numbers 9, the Lord said to Moses, in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, let the Israelites celebrate the Passover at its appointed time.
In Exodus 9, the tabernacle was erected and the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the testimony, and in the evening it was like the appearance of fire over the tabernacle until morning. At the command of the Lord, they would camp as the long as the cloud settled and then they would set out, keeping the Lord’s command.
My five minutes of thoughts on the word Free
At this part of the journey the Israelites followed the Lord’s command. To be free in Christ, we need to follow the commands of the Lord. Freedom is a gift from Jesus. He does not want us to be bound by the law, he wants us to be free in Christ. When we are in Christ, we are free to faithfully realize everlasting eternity with God. In Christ, I am considered his friend. In Christ, I am a minister of reconciliation. I have been justified, I have been redeemed. I am free. Just as the Israelites followed Moses and the presence God, we follow Jesus who purchased our freedom on the cross. He defeated death and Satan so we are free in Christ.
Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3
