“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11: 28-29
My five-minute thoughts on the word REST
Go.
I love the verse in Matthew where I can picture Jesus with his compelling gaze inviting me to come to him. He says come to me all who are heavy burdened and I will give you rest. One of my favorite things to do is to turn on the air conditioner, get under the covers and take a nap. But I think the kind of rest Jesus is talking about is when the cares of the world are surrounding in and we can go to him, lay our burdens down, and actually rest.
What are the ways that you like to rest? Do you have trouble resting? Is it easier to rest when you do not have much on your mind verses when you have a lot on your mind are you able to rest.
Stop.
Today is Sunday and I thought I would take a break from the Israelites.
Micheal W. Smith has a great song called Breathe. I hope you have a restful Sunday afternoon.
Father God, you created the world but on the seventh day you rested. Help us to rest in you. Let us crawl up in your lap and lay our problems down. Help us to give you our problems and our concerns so that we can rest. Blessings.
