Jesus teaches us much in the Bible through parables. A parable according to the dictionary.com is a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson. Truth conveys caring. What is one of the hardest things to teach our children? Teaching our children how to share is very difficult. But, this lesson on sharing demonstrates caring.
Beaten by robbers he lay on the side of the road, he had chosen to go this way. The sun high is the sky, burning his skin, blood dripping from his wounds, only if someone will stop and give me a drink of water, he ponders how thirsty he is and how he wished he had gone a different way this morning. Many walk past him too busy to stop, until one man finally stops and helps. He cares. Jesus shares this parable in Luke 10, how the Good Samaritan chooses to help. The Samaritan provides care for the injuries, gives money to the inn keeper for a room for food and a room so he could recover. Beloved, he was the arms of Jesus, he met the man’s needs.
Fast forward to last week, a woman coming out of the store, walking to her car, two men stronger than her, full of meanness approaching her and trying to steal her purse. Keeping her wits, she starts yelling, “Help, Help, Help”, a woman with a whistle, starts blowing her whistle, they knock her down but the men run away empty-handed. Because of her bravery and yelling and help of several strangers, the young men caught. Hurt and hospitalized, I help her asking if she would like prayer. Listening to the Holy Spirit, I give her a devotional as this accident has brought her to a place of knowing that God has beautiful plans for her life.
Caring is a smile, a prayer, buying a cup of coffee, or giving a bottle of water to a homeless person. Today, I had friends for lunch just a small way to show I care.
Cast Your Cares on Him
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.…1 Peter 5: 6-8
Not only did Jesus teach us in parables, but He provides a way of escape from evil because He cares for us.
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
