Disappointment
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Genesis 6: 5-6. KJV.
Have you ever had someone disappoint you? Disappoint is defined as a person, event, or thing that causes disappointment.
I am not talking about the kind of disappointment that occurs with watching a movie or tasting a cup of coffee. I am talking about the type of blow that rocks your world.
A child does not hold back a pouting face when he or she is disappointed; a child tells it all.
Example
While working, I had a severe sinus infection and began a powerful antibiotic. I also was on a liquid diet in an attempt to shed the weight I had gained. As a nursing supervisor, I report to the Director of Nurses, and attendance was essential. The medication made deathly ill. To make a long story short, I suffered much from this illness. I experienced profound disappointment and was treated poorly at my work.
We read in Genesis 6 how disappointed God was with the men of the earth. He was so disappointed. He was going to destroy the world and start over. However, there was one man God declared righteous. Noah did not disappoint God.
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. Genesis 6: 8-9. KJV.
Perhaps, God whispered to Noah.
Beloved, listen to the whispers of God, “You are my child, You are worthy, You. are righteous. I am pleased that you walk with me.”
Conclusion
For me, this particular disappointment gave me the gentle nudge I needed to change jobs. God promised Noah in Genesis 9 that He would never destroy all humanity ever again by a flood. God provided redemption of man and the animals as they walked through the door of the ark. God delivers our saving through Jesus Christ. As we read in John 14:6, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
Disappointment is God’s appointment to work in our lives. We will not disappoint God if we walk with Him and read His word daily.
Father God, thank you that you are with us when we are disappointed. You work in our lives, and nothing can separate us from the love of God. When we are disappointed, we can bring our sadness and confusion to you. Thank you for Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life. In Jesus’s name, amen.

February 1, 2021 at 4:05 amDiana, I have also experienced disappointment at work. I wonder, did you pursue a new job? I haven’t and wish now that I would have. This is a great start to your 28-day journey.

February 1, 2021 at 4:12 amDear Suzette, I worked for a large hospital, so I went to the job board in the hospital and then I found out how to apply online. You see, I am not one to change jobs but out of this disappointment, I felt I had no choice, so I went beyond my comfort zone and applied. I used to tell the nurses that worked for me, “you are in the driver’s seat of your career”, but did I believe that. Start with dusting off your resume. Don’t underestimate a good resume. Apply for your dream jobs, you never know when God will open the door. Don’t let fear paralyze you. You got this. Blessings Diana

I love your statement, “Disappointment is God’s appointment to work in our lives.” This is so very true. I am sorry that you had that experience at work. I experienced a disappointment at work that I believe was God’s nudge to move on. I’m so grateful to God for the nudge, although it hurt at the time. Thank you for this reminder. Karen

February 1, 2021 at 12:07 pmI’ve never thought about disappointment as being an appointment with God to let him work in our lives—but the words ring true. I’ve discovered that when I turn my disappointments over to him, I can feel at peace a lot sooner than if I stew over them on my own.

February 1, 2021 at 2:37 pmHow wonderful that you took that disappointment and turned it into a new job! I appreciate this insight. Disappointment can be soul-crushing if we allow it to be, but thankfully God can always give us hope regardless of our circumstances.
