Do you know the Redeemer, who redeems us?
When my boys were small, I would sing to them, and most mornings, the song’s words were “rise and shine and gave God the glory.” Today our verse has a different word that I want to write. Beloved, our word is redeemed, redeem, redemption, and Redeemer.
Redeem
Defining redeem is easy, “compensate for the faults or bad aspects of (something).” However, the act of saving someone is not easy. Redeemed is in the Bible 55 times, redeem 129 times, redemption 30 times, and redeemer 22 times.
Perhaps one of my favorite verses is found in Job.
For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; Job 19:25
Kinsman-redeemer
Beloved, we see the picture of a redeemer in the book of Ruth. Ruth is a short book in the Old Testament. Ruth, a Moabite, marries, and her mother-in-law is Naomi. Their husbands die, and Ruth declares that Naomi’s God will be her God, and they return to Bethlehem. This little book has the best romance story and a story of redemption. Ruth meets Boaz, Boaz becomes her kinsman-redeemer. Additionally, Ruth and Boaz are King David’s grandparents, and ultimately Ruth is in the genealogy of our Redeemer Jesus.
In Psalm 44:26, we read that we experience redemption for the sake of God’s steadfast love.

Jesus
Jesus became my Redeemer when I was eleven years old. Therefore, daily as I pray and reflect on the goodness of God, I pray the following prayer.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14.
Father God, thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you for giving us the plan of redemption. Thank you for the Holy Spirit who draws us, convicts us, and comforts us. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
I stand in awe of Jesus, my Redeemer. In our 31 glimpses of God’s Glory, music always points me to the glory of God. That is why I sing and why I sang to my boys.
Will you celebrate with me and listen to this beautiful song by Nicole C. Mullens, I Know My Redeemer Lives.
