Door
Five Minute Friday
“ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ Matthew 6: 9-13
Five Minute Friday- a group that comes together and writes on a word for five minutes. The word is Door. My first thought was Revelation 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” However, impressed by Matthew 6:6, “But when you pray, go into the room, and close the door…….”
Go.
Jesus is observing the Pharisees who were praying to gain attention at certain times of the days. He was not against praying in the public but He opposed to praying for recognition as they were praying pridefully.
Beloved, when is your quiet time? Becky Tirabassi encourages us, make an appointment day in advance to meet with the King of Kings and the Lords of Lord. She uses an hour to read and to write her prayers using the Change Your Life Bible and The Prayer Partner Journal. She has used this system for over thirty years.
The prayer to pray in private behind close doors is one of praise, admission, requests and thanksgiving. Look at the word “Hallowed” this means “to be sanctified or praised”. Praising God for his attributes, His names, His actions and His character. Thanking Him for His kingdom to come. He reigns in our lives through the Holy Spirit. Admission of our sins is according to 1 John 1:9. God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins. When Jesus reminds us to pray for our daily bread this is offering our requests to God for food, health, and our very breath.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD. Psalm 150:6
Our relationship with God cannot be right when we harbor ill-will against our brother. We receive God’s forgiveness once and for all but we need to confess known sin and we need to forgive those that hurt us. Forgiveness releases the person off our hook and places the person on God’s hook and He is the only fair judge. Beloved, there will be times of temptations but God provides a way out of temptation.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
The evil one is seeking to destroy us like a roaring lion, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Beloved, pray daily behind closed doors.
Please know that this took longer than five minutes but I am passionate about prayer and reading God’s word.
What do you do to make your prayer time special? How often do you read God’s word and pray? Will you make an appointment a day in advance with Your Lord?
Father God, I come before you and I praise you for who you are. You are the alpha the omega the beginning the end. Your love is amazing, You are God. I ask you to forgive me where I have failed you. Lord I ask for the person reading this prayer that they will make spending time with you a priority. Your word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our feet. In Jesus’ name Amen
