Dream a Little Dream
In my dream, I could hear my mother’s voice. My mom had just passed away six weeks before. It was in the twilight hours right before an alarm was set to go off. I had been up to give my youngest son a bottle. Laying back down, ushered back into sleep, a voice that I never thought I would hear again.
Beloved, do you remember the crackling sound of long distance? Long before long distance was free on a cell phone, we paid for the calls out of our calling area.
Heavenly Call
I can still hear her voice, “Honey,”
“Mom, is that you?” I said.
“Yes, God has allowed me to call you from heaven!”
Our Hero
Today, in our story of our hero Joseph in the hall of faith, Pharaoh has a dream. We read about the dreams in Genesis 41.
Joseph now remembered is brought before Pharaoh. He points out the obvious when Pharaoh asks in these verses in Genesis 41.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt. And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. Genesis 41: 39-46.
Rescued, and placed in a position of power, second only to Pharaoh.
Wrongly sold, wrongly accused, wrongly imprisoned, Joseph honoring God in all he did, is now in charge. He wisely legislates over the land. He serves with perseverance and integrity.
Wow, the lesson today is that God does not forget us.
What are your struggles today in this current crisis? Do you feel forgotten by God?
Conclusion
My dream continued,
My Mom said, “Honey it is so beautiful up here, and I am in no more pain, I have to go but I can hardly wait to show you around. Don’t be sad anymore, I am in no more pain.”
I have to tell you, I did not want the dream to end but after that day my sadness began to resolve just knowing my mother was free of pain.
What God does in Joseph’s life is nothing short of a miracle.
We need a miracle today, we need God’s grace and love.
Joseph gathers the food and grain that was needed for the upcoming famine.
We see hoarding occuring right now as people struggle with this crisis. Some have too much others do not have enough. Will you share what you have and will you pray for those who are food insecure? Will you pray for provision for those who do not have enough money? food? shelter? child care?
Father God, I ask for this crisis to come to an end? I pray for the children that are endangered? May there be resources to supply their needs. I pray for provision for those that are food insecure, and I pray for protection from this virus. In Jesus’ name Amen.
Who is God asking you to help? What character trait do you need to develop that Joseph exhibits?
