31 Day Writings

Empty, the tomb was empty.

Beloved, our word is empty, and the definition of empty as a verb is to remove all the contents of (a container), and as an adjective containing nothing; not filled or occupied, and as a noun, a container (especially a bottle or glass) left empty of its contents. Sweet friend, empty is in the Bible fifty times.

Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.” John 20: 1-2

Thoughts

Dr. David Jeremiah preached on Sunday and shared the word empty. The place where the stone was empty:

“Mary Magdalene saw the stone had been removed from the tomb.” John 20:1.

Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. 41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. 42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby. John 19: 40-42.

This brings us to the next empty; when the men arrived at the grave, they looked in, and the grave clothes were there, but they were empty.

The tomb was empty. Jesus has risen. He is risen indeed.

How did you celebrate Easter? I went to church. Dr. Jeremiah’s The Emptiness of Easter is wonderful if you did not hear a good sermon.

Prayer

Father God,

As I come to you, help me to empty my heart of worry, strife, and anger. Help me to embrace your love and truth. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

How can I pray for you?
