My mother’s hospitality matched her outgoing spirit in that she didn’t know a stranger. As a teenager, we moved to Escondido, California. This city is close to Camp Pendleton and my brother trained here as a Marine as well as a young man named Ralph. My mom opened the door of our home to Ralph and he spend much time with our family. My cousin Bobby in the Navy spent his time with us also. Additionally, that we were a little over an hour from Disneyland, an hour from Sea World so many relatives knocked at our doors.
Jesus offers an invitation here to anyone that hears the message that He is Christ. In the King James Version it says, “Behold!” I stand at the door and knock.!” This to me Jesus has a sense of urgency in His voice. When my mother passed away, I’d never been that close to death, so I stepped up my evangelism effort. I told everyone about my Lord and Savior. Recently, taking care of a patient, he is a Gideon, he asks, “What is your eternal destination if you were to die today?’ He told me, he doesn’t know if he will see that person again, and why worry about offending that person with such a life affirming decision.
Sometimes, I hope people will know I am a Christian by the fact I am a good person. But Jesus, is boldly standing at the door knocking and he is willing to go in and share a meal with a person. Not just to eat but to share the good news. Jesus gave us the authority to go to the nations in Matthew 28: 19-20, “therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” So I need boldness in my witness for Jesus Christ.
The other part of this is prayer we need to pray for revival in our community and in America. We need to pray for the Light to shine. Jesus Christ is the Light of the world.
The question remains He knocks at the doors of our hearts. Will you open the door of your heart? Do you know Jesus as your Savior? What about you are angry with God and you need to rededicate your life to him. Are you helpless, will you open the door to Jesus for hope? Are you stressed, will you open the door to Jesus for hope? Are you feeling unloved, will you open the door to Jesus for love?
Just as my mother’s hospitality drew family, friends into our home, she shared Christ’s love in away no one else could. She laughed and made everyone feel loved and how special they were to our family. Jesus knocks and I answer the door and He came into have supper with us his penetrating brown eyes would show the depth of his love.
Beloved, what question remains in your heart? Will you give your questions to Jesus?
Life Lesson: Jesus is just outside the door, we have to open the door and let him in to our heart/home.
Song. Just As I Am
Father God, Thank you your word, and the symbols that you give us that paint a picture for us to relate to such as light and the door, and our hearts. Jesus, you stand knocking at the sinners heart and wait for her to open the door either to salvation or rededication. Some believers are so far away from you they are angry at their circumstances and blame you, perhaps, they are still unemployed or going through a divorce, or have a child that has health issues or more month than money. You are knocking and waiting to come in and listen and have a meal with them but they are so busy or angry that they do not hear the knocking on the door. Lord, open their ears. Open their hearts. For anyone that is not saved, Lord Jesus I pray that you will send the Holy Spirit to convict them that today is the day of salvation, all they have to do is believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, confess they have sinned and believe that Jesus is God’s son and they will be saved. For the others Lord, I want to lend them my hope. today is the day of hope. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

October 31, 2016 at 9:44 pmYour mother sounds like she was a wonderful person, Diana. Opening up our homes is a great way to share the love of Jesus with others, even strangers. May He help us to have homes that welcome others and point them to Him.
Blessings to you!

November 2, 2016 at 8:00 amIt’s so important that we remain aware of when Jesus is knocking on the door of our hearts. It’s not only at salvation. There are so many times when He wants to get into those places I shut Him out of.
