Hearing God Is A Little Like Covid (Guest Post by Caryl McAdoo) + Giveaway!

Are you smiling? First, let me say I’m so honored Diana asked me to be a guest at her blog! Thank you, dear friend! I’m praying for your shoulder to heal swiftly and for pain to be minimal. It hurts my heart to think of you in distress! Okay, so how is hearing from God anything akin to the China virus?

It’s an imperfect science . . . No one knows all about it or can provide definite answers about either.

It’s different sometimes for the unique individuals that we are. They thought I had the china virus (not capitalized on purpose) and stuck one of those giant Q-tips in my nose up to my brain. Really, who knew there was that much room up there? 😊

I fell so ill with most of the symptoms for a week before I even went to my doctor who examined me in my car. My oxygen level was at ninety-two. She announced, “Looks like we’re on the covid train.”

Seven days later, when I was feeling almost back to normal, they called to say my test was negative. Maybe I had it and was already over it. Who can know?

Sometimes I feel that way about hearing God, do you?  Sometimes I THINK I hear Him. If only we could be certain, our lives—our choices—would be so much easier! Sometimes, for me, there’s no question when my Father shouts so loud in my inner being that it almost makes me think I heard Him with my ears.

I love those times and would so enjoy if He spoke to me that way every day to guide and direct my steps. It would make life truly grand, but He’s only done that a couple of times in my seventy years. I remember them so vividly though, especially in times when His voice comes more in the still, small way.

But this I know, God DOES speak today! Once I was in a seniors’ Bible Study, and I said something like, “Well, God told me . . .”

One of the sweet white-haired ladies about fifteen years older than me, said, “Don’t say that! He didn’t speak to you! God doesn’t talk today!”

“He speaks to me all the time,” I declared. “Are you one of His sheep, Miss Sylvie?”

“Of course, I am.”

“Well than, what can you say about this verse when Jesus Himself says, ‘My sheep know my voice? How can a person know anyone’s voice if they never hear it? If you never spoke, you could not know my voice and I’d never know yours. But we have had conversations and I do know your voice. You know mine.”

“That’s not the same.”

“Of course, it is. The Son of God tells us that those who follow Him know His voice. Is He a liar then?”

“Of course, not,” she said with gusto, quite disgusted with me.

“You hear Him, Sylvie. You just don’t know it is Him. He doesn’t talk like we do. We hear Him inside ourselves. Mama told me once when I really need to hear a Word, that there’s three places we hear from in our thoughts: ourselves, the devil, and God. Mama told me, ‘Ask God to silence your flesh and believe that it is done. Silence the powers and principalities from speaking in Jesus’ name—you have that authority; He gave it to you. Believe they are silenced then ask your question of the Lord.’

Believing those things weren’t hard because They’re all in the Word, and I believe the Word is Truth. I does take faith. Nothing is done without faith.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

“I did that, and my brain was like a television turned off. I asked God my question and clearly heard His voice.”

The answer surprised me, I would never have expected to hear such, but I was obedient. I have done my best to be obedient to Him to show Him how much I love Him.

He gives us all a measure of faith. Believing becomes easier each time we are obedient—our faith grows. My faith has grown, and I trust Him so that I no longer fear.

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” Romans 12:3

I refuse to fear. I no longer worry. It serves no purpose and is an insult to My Heavenly Father.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2

So, come on ahead china virus! Just try to hurt me; do your best to scare me. I will smash your head under my foot! You will not touch me unless He allows it, and if He does, it’s because He has a plan.

If His plan includes recovery, so be it. I will live to do His will a few days longer.

If His plan is to take me home, all the better for me as that is my promise, my goal, my eternal destiny! Like Paul said, to die is gain! So how can anything scare me?

Dear one, do not be afraid of the china virus, covid or carona—whatever they call it. Instead, trust God and be obedient to His Word, listen for His voice, and live enveloped in His peace instead of fear!

Do you hear God?

Father in Heaven, we praise You and adore You. Thank You for loving us and desiring to converse with us. In the name of Your beloved Son, I ask You to open our spiritual ears to hear you more. Help us to recognize Your voice from hearing You speak, so that we may know Your will and do it. We desire that Your Kingdom will come and Your will is done here on earth as it is in Heaven.

This is such a beautiful blog post, Caryl. I know we hear from God. Sometimes I think we just don’t realize it. In the very beginning of covid, (and yes, I refuse to capitalize it as well) I admit I was fearful of the unknown and what was going to happen. I had a few restless nights and allowed myself to worry and wonder with all of the what-if’s. But that fear quickly turned into faith. Faith that, if I get covid, or someone I love does, God already has a plan that is good, and all we have to do is trust Him. Whatever we go through, He will go before us, beside us, and all around us. Of course I am cautious and follow all the social distancing guidelines, but I am no longer a slave to fear, because I am a child of God! Thank you for this beautiful reminder today!
