Tragically she lost her father at a young age, killed by a gunshot, the details are not important except for this one, he was a donor and his heart donated to a stranger a man who only had days to live. He was given a second chance at life, to raise his children because of this stranger’s heart.
Are you one of those who cries at happy endings? I am. I cry while watching Hallmark Movies, I confess I cry when someone wins Price is Right or at those sappy Hallmark commercials. Today was a first for me, I never have cried at the news for happy reasons.
It seems to me I remember that everything remained a secret when there is a transplant. No one knew who contributed the heart and who received the heart. Well it was not the case tonight in the news, the man who received the heart of her father is alive and well. She was able to contact him. He is tall and handsome, much older than she is and old enough to be a father figure in her life. However, this is not the case, they met for the first time, this week for her wedding.
Her wedding. He came to give her away. He came bringing her daddy’s heart, she touched her hand to this man’s chest to feel the beat of his heart, all she wanted was her daddy’s heart beating and for this man to be present at her wedding. This was a happy moment for her. Isn’t God good?
Beloved, what is one of your happiest moments? Maybe it is simply sitting down and enjoying a hot cup of coffee with a friend. Perhaps, it is having a quiet moment with the Lord. Happiness comes from within and our attitude is our choice. We can choose joy each and every day.
If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love. I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I loved you.… John 15: 10-12
This young woman felt her father’s heart beating and beloved we have the tangible beat of our Father’s heart in His Word demonstrated in these verses that we love one another as he loves us as we keep His commandments so that our joy may be complete.
Father God, thank you that you loved us so much that you gave us your son. Thank you that when our heart beats after you we have happy moments. That you are in our moments. I was in awe of how you worked in the details of that young woman’s life to give her the tangible gift of arms to dance with although not the same close enough to make her day special. Lord we do not thank you enough for technology that saved that life to give her the joy this day. Lord, let me be aware of the happiest moments of my day and to be thankful. Let me be full of praise and thanksgiving. You know our request for our world, to keep us safe from harm. Forgive us where we have failed you. In Jesus name’ Amen.
What do you need to thank the Lord for today? Will you consider being an organ donor?

Disclaimer: some of this is my imagination in how she must have felt feeling the beating heart in the man who received her father’s heart .

August 9, 2016 at 11:29 amDiana, this is a beautiful post and a beautiful prayer! How touching! I love hearing positive stories on the news. It is always so full of violence and bad things, it makes a heart weary, but when we see things like this it makes a heart feel like there is still good in the world. Thank you for this post today! You are a beautiful person, and I am so grateful that God placed you in my path! You are more than a friend, you are a true mentor to me! Love you! <3

August 9, 2016 at 12:49 pmThis is very heartwarming. It is neat to see how a tragedy turned into a blessing in this story. I think sometimes we need to look for the joy in our days instead of focusing on the negatives like you pointed out. Thanks for the sweet reminder!

I enjoyed meeting your on Kelly Balarie’s PurposefulFaith.com linkup. This was a tender and amazing story. A recent neuromuscular illness has caused me to question: “Where is my joy?” God is good and reminding me He and JOY never left. Thank you for sharing this.
