Beloved, our word is the lottery–a means of raising money by selling numbered tickets and giving prizes to the holders of numbers drawn at random or a process or thing whose success or outcome is governed by chance. So when I think of the word lottery, I think of winning. Sweet friend win is in the Bible over 500 times.
I know of only one couple who won the lottery. They gave the money away to people who needed it more than they did. Since I do not play the lottery, I can only imagine what I would do should I win.
God gave us principles, and many say the root of all evil is money, but the truth is it is the love of money that gets one into trouble.
So to keep your life free from the love of money and to be content with what you have–we need to have a winning walk with God.
When I started our series on King David’s Prayers, I shared that I write my prayers. I shared how I start with praise, admit, and request. However, an essential part of the prayer is thanksgiving. Thanks and gratitude need to be the hallmark of our prayer life.
Some have a gratitude journal. I’ve purchased journals searching for the right system, but can I tell you that simply talking to God and thanking him with a grateful heart daily improves one’s attitude?
The mere act of thanksgiving opens up your heart to God’s possibilities.
King David Prayers
Let’s consider Psalm 101
I will sing of lovingkindness and [a]justice,
To You, O Lord, I will sing praises.
2 I will walk the [c]blameless way.
When will You come to me?
I will walk within my house in my heart’s [d]integrity.
3 I will set no worthless thing before my eyes;
I hate the [e]work of those who fall away;
It shall not fasten its grip on me.
4 A perverse heart shall depart from me;
I will know no evil.
5 Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will [f]destroy;
I will endure no one with a haughty look and an arrogant heart.
6 My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me;
He who walks in a [g]blameless way is the one who will minister to me.
7 He who practices deceit shall not dwell within my house;
He who speaks falsehood shall not [h]maintain his position before me.
8 Every morning, I will [i]destroy all the wicked of the land,
To cut off from the city of the Lord all those who do iniquity
This Psalm of David claims that He wants integrity first and faithfulness. Daily praying leads to goodness and faithfulness. Keeping our eyes on Jesus, we will have a winning walk.
Prayer
Father God, create a clean heart, search me, and know if anything is causing me to be anxious or worried. Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Please help me to be thankful and walk with integrity. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
The truth is if we have Jesus as our Savior, we have already won the lottery.
