Beloved, if I was to ask you who named you? We all have a story of how we received our name. The word name is in the Bible over a thousand times, 1029 in the NASB version. The definition of a name is a word or set of words by which a person, animal, place, or thing is known, addressed, or referred to.
When my son was three, one day, he was incredibly talkative, and it was “mama this” and “mama that”–question after question. So finally, I said, “Randy, I am going to change my name.” I soon heard him say, “Mama, What’s Your Name?
My word this year is glory, so looking at the verse in the graphic brings a smile to my face:
Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. Psalm 115:1
So, my mom wanted to name me Lisa, but because of a popular song, my dad named me Diana. So often, people call me Diane, and this frustrated my dad. Do you struggle with others messing up your name?
The one who will never mess up your name is God. Read with me this verse in John:
To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. John 10:3
I remember studying the book of John in Bible Study Fellowship and the impact of John 10 on me that the God of the universe knew my name. So, beloved, God knows your name; it is the precious child of God.
King David’s prayers:
I refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. Psalm 5: 11
I will give thanks to the Lord according to His righteousness and sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High. Psalm 7:17
O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens! Psalm 8 1
I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:2
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. Psalm 9: 10
Pray with me,
Father God,
Create in me, oh God; search me and know if I have any anxiety or worry. Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Oh Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth, who have displayed Your Splendor above the heavens. I will be glad and rejoice in You. I will sing praise to Your name. OW Most High. Thank you for making us individuals, loving us, knowing us, and choosing us. In Jesus’s name. Amen
