When I think of the word nurturing, I think a mother and her baby, a gardener and his hot-house of flowers. This representation of God a picture I’m begging you a nurturing God.
I went to a retreat this weekend, this retreat presented by Suzanne Eller’s one of the best retreats that I have ever gone to because it was nurturing from the beginning of the retreat to the end of the retreat. She introduces us to Simon before Jesus nurtures him. Simon has fished all night. He has not caught anything all night. Jesus looks him in the eye and asks him to throw the net on the other side of the boat into the deep. Simon says we have fished all night but Lord I will do what you say. When Simon through the net it was so full that it could not be lifted. Simon’s name changes to Peter. Peter leaves with the fish and becomes a fisher of men.
God is nurturing us to become fisher of men. He is nurturing us to come with him, to follow him, where ever he leads us.
Beloved, what is God nurturing you to do?
