Beloved, our word persists. Persists definition is to continue firmly or obstinately in an opinion or a course of action in spite of difficulty, opposition, or failure. Persists is only is the Bible once.
Thoughts
There is a group of writers who write a word every Friday. The word this last Friday persists. The group practices writing a blog post in five minutes on the word.
We see this word in the Bible in reference to the rules pertaining to marriage if a man dies.
7 However, if a man does not want to marry his brother’s wife, she shall go to the elders at the town gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to carry on his brother’s name in Israel. He will not fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to me.” 8 Then the elders of his town shall summon him and talk to him. If he persists in saying, “I do not want to marry her,” 9 his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, take off one of his sandals, spit in his face and say, “This is what is done to the man who will not build up his brother’s family line.” Deuteronomy 25: 7-9.
The best love story is in Ruth’s book; conversely, the saddest is Tamar. Ruth is widowed and redeemed by Boaz. Ramar tries by finally persists and becomes pregnant by Judah.
Judah recognized them and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I wouldn’t give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not sleep with her again. Genesis 38:6
Conclusion
Today, what is God asking you to persist in? Do you have a friend that needs to hear the good news of Jesus?
Keep praying. Keep serving. Keep reading God’s word.
You can do this.
Father God, Help us persist. In Jesus’s name. Amen
