The Psalmist seems distraught, he is praying and pleading with God. In these verses, Psalm 119: 25-48, he admits not understanding, feeling shame yet he asks for strength. Such strong action is depicted as he is learning, meditating, holding fast, setting the law, running to the law, and understanding the Word is his desire. God’s word is described as decrees, precepts, and law. He allows God’s word to be his guide. He asks for faithfulness, he desires to obey it with all his heart, he declares his delight and dependency on God’s word. He is turning from evil. Keeping his eyes and heart focusing on ways to preserve his life, He declares his dependency on God’s unfailing love. Because of God’s unfailing love, we can walk in freedom, we can memorize God’s word. God’s word gives hope and when asked what is the source of our hope and strength we can declare it is God and His word.
