Do you journal? How many of you had a diary as a young girl?
Before I ever dreamed of being a writer, I wrote love letters to God called prayers. My first written prayer journal was called “The Quiet Heart.” It was a spiral-bound 8 by 11 notebook with blank paper. As time went on, I graduated to blank lined books. Page after page, I would praise God.
I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches. Psalm 119:14 NIV.I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High. Psalm 7: 17 NIV.
I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. Psalm 17:6 NIV.
The book of Psalm is an excellent resource on how and what to pray. Praying God’s word back to Him is powerful.
We can ask God when we are lacking something, we can give him our needs and our wants. You do not see King David shying away from praying when he was afraid, when he was lonely, and when he was angry.
Back to writing my prayers, I had no recipe until I met Becky Tirabassi and started following her. I have attended conferences that she has taught on prayer. She uses the Change Your Life Bible, My Prayer Partner notebook, and has journaled her prayers for over 30 years. You can find out more information at http://www.beckytirabassi.com
She uses the word PART, Praise, Admission, Request, and Thanks. If you purchase her notebook she has the next section is LMNOP standing for Listen, Message, New Testament, Old Testament, and Proverbs.
I have journaled for a long time, written a blog on and off since 2011.
Using a Psalm, it is your turn to write a letter or prayer to God.
Father God, thank you for the Bible. Thank you for giving us a blueprint on how to pray. I praise you for loving us. I admit I do not always think pure thoughts. I ask that you draw us closer to you. I thank you for being God and protecting us. In Jesus’ name. Amen
What is your favorite Psalm?
