Psalm119 W2D3

W2D3

S-  Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish goals. Turn my eyes away from worthless things, preserve my life according to your word.

O Action word of turning Turn away, turn toward both require a will or action. Turn to statues which is God’s Word not toward selfish goals. The heart represents our emotional center, an attitude of love or submission. The heart can be selfish-all about me. The eye is the center of vision. Eve saw the fruit and the fruit looked good and then her heart started to listen to the worthless things that Satan was saying. Worthless things cause us to deteriorate and turning towards God’s word preserves us our integrity.

A  How often do you read God’s word.  Identify two selfish goals? Identify three worthless things that derail your relationship with God. Will you turn and seek God first. Seek him first. When is your quiet time to evaluate your day, what are your marching orders, what do you need to forsake and renounce? What verse might you claim to preserve your life?

P  Father God, I praise you for your word. Your word instructs and preserves my life and the life of the believer. Lord, I ask that you soften my heart so that I seek you and prevent me from seeking selfish goals. Lord, let me claim your word and think on the things that are excellent and pure. Keep my eyes from seeing worthless things. Lord help me to identify selfish goals. Create in me a clean heart.

Here is the blog from Love God Greatly for week two. http://www.lovegodgreatly.com/lgg-blog/

Beloved, what do you think when you hear the word turn? In directions we say turn right at the corner of 7th and Main, or flip a U-turn because you have gone to far, but here the Psalmist is saying turn toward God’s word. Teaching Sunday School for three-year-old is one of the things I did and singing a priority. The song Oh Be Careful Little Eyes What You See was a hit. The words in the song continue “because the Father up above is looking down in love so be careful little eyes what you see. Then the verses would continue with ears what you hear, mind what you think, and feet where you go.  How right for the walk of a Christian?

The other thing I think of is the song Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus. I hate the ad when you open the song so if you want to mute your computer until the song starts I would understand. This song brings back memories of my youth attending church where we would sing this song. Beloved will you turn your eyes upon Jesus, will you incline your ears to hear the message that God loves you?
