Introduction
My grandmother had a neighbor and friend, I knew her as Mrs. Anderson. Over the years, they spent time together. Whenever there was a storm threat, a tornado watch, Grandma would go to Mrs. Anderson’s house because of her having a cellar. As the years went by, Mrs. Anderson’s vision wasn’t as sharp but she still drove her car. Grandma couldn’t drive but she could see and together Grandma and Mrs. Anderson drove throughout the small town.
In today’s reading, we learn about gleaning. Gleaning was used to provide food for the poor and the widows. Similar to welfare, the law was the field was not to be gleaned to the corners but an area of the field was to be left not picked so those less fortunate would have food.
Scripture and Assignment
Ruth 2: 1-3, Proverbs 20:24, SOAP Ruth 2:3
And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech” (Ruth 2:3 KJV).
Observation
Ruth gleaned the field of Boaz. Ruth provides for Naomi by gleaning this field. The Lord directs our steps, tell of a time when you knew God was directing your steps. Do you help your fellow man?
Application
How has the Lord provided for you? Do you have to depend on someone?
Prayer
Father God, thank you that You provide for our every need. Thank you that You direct our steps. Thank you that we can depend on You to meet our needs. Thank you that you work out every situation for Your glory those who have been called according to Your purpose. Thank you for Your Word, that Your son is the Word. Thank you in our abundance we can help others. Help each of us to be generous to a fault. Let us be more concerned about the welfare of someone else instead of worrying about ourselves. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Conclusion
Ruth didn’t have land, Boaz had land, together they become a power couple. Grandma couldn’t drive, Mrs. Anderson couldn’t see but together they had some fun times. God meets our needs.
How can you help your fellow woman? Are you gleaning to the corners of your property or leaving room to be generous with someone? What are you needing from God?
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33, KJV).
