Sarah Laughs and Lies

I am loving reading Genesis again. Our reading today is Genesis 18-21: 1-7. Beloved, we can’t be too hard on Sarah for laughing and then saying I didn’t laugh. Sarah reacts and then in fear she denied that she laughed.

Have you ever prayed for something so long and then when it happens, you can’t believe the answer to prayer has occurred? My youngest son needed surgery and it seemed to take so long for him to be helped. He finally was approved for the surgical procedure.

Sarah was old and so was Abraham when God intervened and she becomes pregnant with Issac. But nothing is too hard for God.

Sarah laughed and lied

God promises Abraham a son Issac.

It is a beautiful story of a man who trusts God.

In the same chapter of Sarah being told she is to have a baby, a plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of what is called “flagrant sin”. Abraham struggles with this so he asks the Lord if 50 people were found to be righteous, then he keeps the conversation going until he is down to 10, if 10 were found to be righteous, would God save Sodom and Gomorrah.

God listens to Abraham. However, 10 righteous could not be found. I have always been bothered by the story of the two angels but sin is ugly. We read this in Genesis 19.

Lot and his wife and two daughters are saved, but his wife looks back and she dies. Of course, the story does not end there, you have to read it on your own.

God sure works with imperfect people. Abraham again lies about Sarah being his sister. Which she was but she was his wife and she was very beautiful. God prevents any harm coming to Sarah by telling Abimelech in a dream that she was a married woman. Abraham ends up praying for Abimelech and his wife so they could have a child.

The promised baby arrives approximately one year after the visit from God and the angels. We read this in Genesis 21: 1-7. Sarah declares that God has brought her laughter. She had her long-awaited miracle.

Beloved, nothing is too hard for God.

My something old was Sarah laughing when she hears she will have a baby, my something new was the fact that God rendered the women related to Abimelech unable to conceive until Abraham prays for Abimelech and specifically his wife. My something to do is to join the church I am attending as I finally have peace that this is the church God wants me to go to in Mansfield.

Father God, nothing is too hard for you. I ask for us to fall in love with your word and apply it to our lives.

What is God asking you to do in response to these chapters in Genesis?
