Unwrapping the Names of Jesus – Day 29
Beloved, I’ve always loved Peter because he is so real. At this point in Jesus’s journey to the cross, the disciples are following, and so are the crowds. So listen as Jesus questions the disciples to His identity.
And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
19 So they answered and said, “John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
20 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.” Luke 9: 18-20.
Peter has it right. As we unwrap the names of Jesus, He is “The Christ of God.”
Jesus was with God when God created the world. Proverbs31.org has prepared a study for January titled “Seeing Jesus In The Old Testament.” Jesus became the Christ of God to pay the penalty for our sins. Sweet Friend, while we were still sinners, Christ died on the cross. We read this in Romans 5,
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.
Jesus is the reason we have this advent season; He left the glory of heaven to become the Son of Man so that we have a Savior who is Christ the Lord, or for today, “Christ of God.”
What will you do with this information, who will you share it with today?
Father God, thank you for Jesus, Christ of God.
