Unpacking the verses to live by – Day 3
Beloved, before I retired in 2017 when asked what my plans for the weekends were, I would say take a nap. A power nap is fantastic, and sometimes I love to sleep longer than twenty minutes on a Saturday afternoon, especially if it is raining or cold outside.
Sweet friends, it was written by the sons of Korath. This song begins with God as our refuge and strength. It reminds me that God is a mighty fortress is our God. Verse one continues that God is an ever-present help in trouble. Read with me Psalm 46.
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1.
This verse tucked in the middle, verse 7, “The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Of course, it ends with that verse 11, “The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
However, today as we unpack verse 10, it is often shortened and just quoted, “Be still and know that I am God.” The verse continues after the semi-colon, and it says
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
Beloved, perhaps we should learn the rest of the verse. God be exalted among the nations is my prayer today.
Currently, I have come out of retirement, and I still like to take a nap. What is something you love to do on your day off?
Father God, thank you that you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. You, Lord, are God Almighty, You are the God of Jacob, You are our Fortress, You are exalted among the nations, and You are elevated in the earth. Father God, thank you that we can be still and know that You are God.
