Beloved, our word abides. To define abide is to accept or act by (a rule, decision, or recommendation). Abide is in the Bible in the New King James Version 51 times.
We read much about abiding in John 15.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
Thoughts
When I think of abiding, I think of being so close. David and Jonathan were best friends, and I met Jennifer Hahn while working as a clerk at the hospital when I was twenty-six years old. I was reading a Christian novel during my break. We bonded immediately. She was ten years older than me, but the age never mattered. I craved friendship. Quickly, we started doing everything together. But when we began studying God’s word and learned to pray together, our souls were knitted together.
This happens when we devote ourselves to reading and praying God’s Word.
We are knitted to God.
This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15: 12-13.
Sweet friend, God loves us with everlasting love.
Prayer
Father God,
You love us with everlasting love. You ask us to abide, and you take in us. I am in awe of your passion and your goodness with us daily. Daily we can trust you to be with us regardless of our troubles. We trust you with our problems. In Jesus’s name. Amen
Reflection
In what ways are you abiding with Christ daily?
