Introduction
After having two sons and four grandsons, my secret desire that I voiced to God was that it would be wonderful to have a granddaughter? Much to my surprise, the last two grandchildren are girls and one from each of my sons. My grandchildren bring me much delight.
Scripture
And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved. Psalm 119:47.
My Thoughts
The Psalmist declares his delight in the commandments. Commandments aren’t those the rules Moses received from God?
The word commandments are used twenty-eight times in the Bible and eighteen times it is used in Psalm 119.
Beloved, are you a rule follower? The Commandments were given as the Law. When the law was enforced, the law was a good thing. However, by the time that Jesus was born, the Jewish people had added many restrictions to the existing Commandments. Thus, it was impossible to keep the Commandments.
The Law was necessary for the Old Testament times.
The Psalmist declares his dependence on God’s commands. Read with me
With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Psalm 119: 10.
Another verse declaring delight.
Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight. Psalm 119: 35.
He believed in the Commandments.
Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments. Psalm 119: 66.
His Prayer.
Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments. Psalm 119: 73.
He declares his love for the Commandments.
Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. Psalm 119: 127
Beloved, it begs the question, do you love God’s Word?
Conclusion
Father God, may we follow You and love your Word more than gold. In Jesus’ name. Amen
We are so rich because we have the whole Word of God.
Just as my grandchildren bring me delight, God’s Word brings me much comfort.
