There’s something magical about believing in Santa Claus, Santa visits us on Christmas Eve, my mother weaves a story about how our house is the first stop. I’m eight-years-old, a song’s been playing on the radio, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, so when I hear Santa’s “Ho! Ho! Ho!” sounding like my father’s voice, I struggle with believing in my beloved Santa Claus.
Jesus anointed at Bethany in John 12:3 says, “Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.” Then, he defends her choice to use this expensive perfume on him saying that the poor will always be with us in the world. The people were coming to see Jesus the light and to see Lazarus whom he raised from the dead. Then he came to Jerusalem as the King of the Jews. Hosanna were the cries of the people.
Jesus shares that he is the light and he would be there only a little while, he tells them that he is going away to a place and of course they do not understand at this point that he is talking about his death. His popularity’s great and he has to hide from the crowd so he is alone to pray before he’s arrested, placed on trial and crucified, raised from the dead, and ascended to heaven.
As Christians, our testimony of Jesus saving us shining his light into our sinful past, we need to be willing to give a reason for the joy that we have in our lives. Do you believe in the light of Jesus? Are you willing to share the light of Jesus?
That Christmas eve I realized my dad was Santa Claus. I’m disappointed at first but then the magic of the season captures my imagination and so to not disappoint my mother, I play along. Soon I accept the real Santa Claus Jesus Christ the one who gives eternal life who enables us to walk in the light of His love.
Beloved, Santa Claus is fiction Jesus is real, have you made Jesus a priority in your life? Jesus is the reason for the Christmas Season.
Life Lesson: Walking in the Light requires accepting Jesus as your Savior.
Song: Trust and Obey.
Father God, you gave us Jesus your Son so that we would have eternal life. Lord, the world need Light. Let us be the light, light that shines on us by being good citizens. Help us to be willing to help our neighbors. In Jesus’ name. Amen
