This Psalm’s author is King David and he writes this early in his Kingship. According to the Life Application Study Bible, King David writes this prayer for help to walk a blameless path and with integrity. In the Amplified Bible, the title of this Psalm is The Psalmist’s Profession Of Uprightness.
King David at the beginning of his Kingship clings to God’s favor and leadership. Remember the hardship he endures from Saul and his soldiers, but the comfort of the bond of a friend from Jonathan, Saul’s son. God designates David as the King when he was a teen still in the field still a shepherd. However, Saul is dead and David is King.
Matthew Henry’s commentary states, “This psalm declares, “How he intended to regulate his household, and to govern his kingdom, that he might stop wickedness, and encourage godliness.”
I will sing of your love and justice; (steadfast)
to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
when will you come to me?
I will conduct the affairs of my house
with a blameless heart.
I will not look with approval
on anything that is vile.
I hate what faithless people do,
I will have no part in it.
King David determined according to the scripture that not only he would be blameless but his servants would be blameless. What does a blameless heart look like? David declares he will not look on anything vile. Beloved, how are you in this department? It is really hard today, would you agree? Commercials are “R” rated, commercials of sexual impotency and products for one’s monthly cycle. The Lord’s mercy and judgment are relevant in this Psalm. His attributes of mercy and judgment are relevant in this Psalm.
The next section of this Psalm judgment on evil. King David said he would have nothing to do with what was evil, and arrogant. Psalm 101: 4-5
The perverse of heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with what is evil. Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret, I will put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not tolerate.
I like the Amplified Bible for verses 6-8, “My eyes will be on the faithful (honorable) of the land, that they may dwell with me; He who walks, blamelessly is the one who will minister to and serve me. He who practices deceit will now serve in my house; He who tells lies and half-truths will not continue (to remain) in my presence. Morning after morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land, That I may cut off from the city of Lord all those who do evil.
Beloved, once again King David asks to dwell with the Lord is to walk blameless, to minister, to serve, telling the truth. Do you know someone telling half-truths? Do you know someone exercising evil that needs to be removed from your life? Walking blameless is:
Does the LORD take delight in thousands of rams, In ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I present my firstborn for my rebellious acts, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD requires of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:7-8
To walk with God includes having Jesus as your Savior, I led a man to the Lord this last weekend, we have to listen to the Holy Spirit and not be afraid to speak. My opening question is do you have faith? This question opens the door and then I swing the door open and walk through. Beloved, if a person says no, he or she is saying no to God not rejecting you. You may be the only person to present Jesus. God is at work and He invites you to join in His work. Beloved, this Psalm starts with praise and statements of decisions of how King David wanted to live. Similar to goal statements or a promise statements, how might you complete the following?
I will sing of your steadfast love and justice. I will praise you.
I will be careful to lead a blameless life by _______________________________.
I will conduct the affairs of my house with a ______________________heart.
I will not look at ________________ which causes me to stray in my walk with the Lord.
I hate the sin of ________________ and I will have no part of it.
I confess that I participated in ___________________ and it is against God’s choice for my walking with him. (reading R Or X rated novels, Watching R or X rated movies, or pornography,)
Father God, I come before you and ask this week that I stay in your word and praise you with all my heart. Lord that I walk blameless. That I forgive those I need to forgive on a daily basis. Lord God, I thank you for all your blessings. You are the alpha the omega the beginning, the end and I thank you that you are faithful. Lord thank you that we can walk in justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
