How many times have you had a problem? A problem can seem unsurmountable. A problem can be overwhelming. A problem can be a concern, the word problem is not found in the Bible, however, the word concern and care has a verse or two or three.
Peter addresses cares in 1 Peter.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7.
Scripture
Thoughts
Worry, fear, and anxiety are associated with problems. We are told in scripture to not worry and to not be anxious and to not fear, yet in our response to problems we are often filled with worry, fear, and anxiety.
My good friend Dr. Michelle Bengtson has written a book on how to break the grip of anxiety, worry and fear. It is called Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim The Peace God Promises.
She shares a prescription at the end of each chapter on how to break the cycle of worry, fear, and anxiety.
One way is with scripture. Read with me Psalm 138 and focus on verse 7-8.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.
The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. Psalm 138: 7-8.
Daily we walk in the midst of troubles, problems, and or concerns. Do you have a child with Attention Deficit Disorder, or Autism? Do you have more month than money? Do you have a husband that drinks too much? Are you lonely?
Problems come in all shapes and sizes, there is not one of us immune to problems, it is how we respond to the problem or problem that make or break us.
Conclusion
Peter was in a boat and the storm around him was a problem, yet he got out of the boat and was walking on water, until he took his eyes off Jesus. Another time, Jesus is walking on the water, the disciples are in trouble because of a storm. The disciples had to invite Jesus into the boat to benefit.
Will you keep your eyes on Jesus? Will you invite Jesus into your problems, your boat if you will?
Father God, help me to pray more, read more and worry less about my problems. For the woman lacking faith will you surround her with your love and become real to her in her problem. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
