Any new program that one starts like a diet around day four a person hits a wall. Giving up sugar as many times as I have, it takes three days and if one pushes through day four, the sugar cravings will go away. When one hits the wall, it takes every ounce of will power not to revert to what is the old comfortable way of doing things and stick to the plan at hand.
This morning I was reading Psalm 90. Moses writing says in verse twelve, “Teach us to number our days aright that we may gain a new heart of wisdom.” What are you doing to number you days right? Part of my day is to meet the Lord in the morning to write out scripture, to pray, and to read my bible. Perhaps your day includes exercise and you are hitting the wall because of all the sore muscle. You have to keep going. Perhaps you are returning to school and you are not going to procrastinate this semester. Make a calendar with all your assignments and budget your times. Perhaps you have argued with your husband and you now know when he comes home that you were not listening to his point of view and so you really want to support him when he comes home from work.
Beloved, change is hard. One of my favorite says from Dr Nick: “You have to change the way you see before you can change the way you look.”
We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength, do you believe this? Philippians 4:13
Father God, that you that change is possible. I ask that you change me. That your word comes alive for me. I am in awe of your majesty. Teach me to number my days right, help me to make my days count and may I serve you each day. In Jesus name. Amen.
