Is patience a virtue? I used to pray for patience because I do not like to stand in line, wait for my husband to quit talking to the stranger in the grocery store. I stopped going to the gym with him because he talks to so many people. My new problem is the Internet. This is the second time it has happened, I’ve used up all the fast internet service until May 22 when it reset to the 15 GB.
Patience is in the Bible 33 times.
Scripture
Read with me these verses in James.
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1: 3-4
“Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.” James 5:11
Thoughts
Wow, when we say, “you have the patience of Job” we are quoting part of the verse in James 5: 11.
This scripture meme quotes Psalm 119: 166. Is it true of you? That you and I follow the Bible and its commands. If we do follow its commands, we are to not worry, we are not to fear, we are to cast our burdens on to the Lord.
So, beloved, how are you doing with the virtue of patience?
Even though the Internet being slow for the next week, maybe it is a lesson for me to take time to enjoy the life I am living.
Do I tell my husband I love him, do I take time to pray and read my Bible, do I enjoy the people I am around? Am I present in the moment or do I take for granted the wonderful moments that are God ordained appointments?
My husband had to be rushed to the hospital this week because of chest pain, he is okay and we had some good news about his heart. Despite his family history, and high blood pressure, his heart is in good shape. But we had to wait to hear that news and while we were waiting, anxiety was high.
Conclusion
So patience is a virtue, when we heard the results of the angiogram, the anxiety went away and we praised God.
Over the next week, I will have many times of my patience being tested because of the Internet being slow, but I am just going to praise God because I have the internet.
Father God, whatever my beloved friend that is reading this blog is going through, if it requires patience or waiting, would you increase her faith? Would you grant us the patience that is Godly patience towards our husbands, and our children, and yes even our friends. I stand in awe of You and Your love and Your holy presence. I ask that our tempers not be short, that we exhibit to others the love that You give us. In Jesus name, Amen.
What areas of your life do you need a little more patience?
