    Sacrificial Love

In 2018, my husband and I most-likely had the flu, we were so sick with a fever, we really couldn’t decide who was the sickest. So, we flipped a coin to see who would take the dog out.

In the Bible, there are many instances of miraculous healing.

One such healing occurred when Jesus arrived in Capernaum.  Jesus mesmerized the crowd teaching and healing as we read in Mark 1. Retiring to Simon and Andrew’s house, we are about to witness a miracle.

Simon’s mother-in-law was bedridden, sick with a high fever, so the first thing they did was to tell Jesus about her. He walked up to her bedside, gently took her hand, and raised her up! Her fever disappeared and she began to serve them.” Mark 1: 30-31. (Passion Translation)

How to know you are loved

Compelling and heart-wrenching as Simon’s mother-in-law so sick, what do we do as a family when our loved ones need help?

    Memories

Many years ago, my father-in-law passed away and we gave up our home, relocated to care for my husband’s mom. Failing in health, legally blind she could not live alone. This sacrifice, a promise made to his dad, came with challenges. Over the next four years, we worked out the kinks. I know the sacrifices we made are nothing compared to the sacrifice she made giving life to my husband.

    Sacrifices

Beloved, is God asking you to do something sacrificial or special for a family member? Jesus went up and touched Simon’s mother-in-law and she was healed physically, perhaps you may need to be healed emotionally as well. Do you need a fresh touch from Jesus? Jesus is willing to heal us.

Unfortunately, my mother-in-love passed away and we then moved to Oklahoma to care for my father. He passed away five months after we arrived. Even though our parents are in heaven, my husband and I do not regret the sacrifices we made for them.

    Thankfulness

    Conclusion

We recovered from the time my husband and I were so sick. Alas, we did the best we could and we thank God when he healed us.

What is God asking you to do? Are you prepared to be sacrificial in giving to those in need?

Father God, thank you for our families. for the Bible and the many nuggets of truth that we can gain from and grow. Lord,  let me continue to grow in your likeness and wisdom. For the family struggling with a member that may be ill, give them grace as Your grace is sufficient to meet our needs.  In Jesus’ name. Amen

What does sacrificial love mean to you?
