    Sweet Word of God

    Introduction

Tax day is just a few days away. Do you have your taxes done? We have to pay this year, so after I wrote the check. So what do you do when you write out your taxes, you go and get ice cream. Yes, sweet ice cream. God’s word is sweet, sweet to our ears, sweet to our souls, refreshing and enlightening. Beloved, as we continue in Psalm 119, what other verses in the Bible share that God’s word is sweet like honey?

    Psalm 119: 103

    Scripture

Oh, how I love your law!
I meditate on it all day long.
98 Your commands are always with me
and make me wiser than my enemies.
99 I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.
100 I have more understanding than the elders,
        for I obey your precepts.
101 I have kept my feet from every evil path
so that I might obey your word.
102 I have not departed from your laws,
for you yourself have taught me.
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
    104 I gain understanding from your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path.

    My Thoughts

Beloved, consider this verse in Proverbs.

Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. Proverbs 16: 24.

This verse is sharing our words and how when we use words that edify the words are sweet.

The verse above shares that God’s word is sweet, sweeter than honey. Sweet is found in the Bible 113 times.

God’s word is a two-edged sword. Another verse in Psalm says,

When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet. Psalm 141:6.

Are you memorizing God’s word? Are you reading God’s word? Are you applying God’s word?

One way of doing that is to apply the verses to your life. The Psalmist used the word as a plumb line. This plumb line keeps the Psalmist on the straight and narrow.

    Conclusion

Father God, guard our steps, guard our minds, and guard our thoughts that take our hope away.

What verse in this section do you want to memorize? How long will you meditate on God’s word?
