Have you ever raised your voice? Oh believe me I have yelled a time or two, maybe three or four thousand times. At one point of my life, my mouth was wired shut, I had jaw surgery and my jaw was technically broke in five places. Also, I used to be a switch board operator, so I had laryngitis at least once a year. So my voice was barely audible during these times. Do you know that when you have your mouth wired shut and you yell, you actually choke?
Scripture
“Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”Psalm 5: 2-3.
Thoughts
King David writes a lament, a prayer against his enemies.
In verse 1, King David pleads with God for Him to listen to King David’s prayers and concerns. He asks God to hear his prayers.
He uses his voice, utters a cry. Have you ever cried out to the Lord? Hear my voice Lord.
I love that King David brings his cares and concerns to God. King David had real enemies not just perceived enemies. He declares who the real King is, it is his God.
Beloved, VOICE is in the bible 469 times and in the Psalms 48 times.
What are you using your voice? Do you speak up for Jesus? Do you speak up for the unjust? the homeless? the mistreated child?
Beloved, we first see the word voice in Genesis, when Adam and Eve hid from God, after they had sinned.
And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. Genesis 3:8.
God has a voice and we hear His voice when we read His word.
Another example of using our voice is John the Baptist, read with me.
He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. John 1: 23,
He used his voice to testify about Jesus, the son of God.
Father God, let me use my voice to witness for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Who needs to hear your voice? Will you sing with me O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing.
