Beloved, our word is tension, and one of the meanings is mental or emotional strain. However, the word tension is not in the Bible. The opposite of the word is relaxing.
The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:14
Thoughts
King David lived a tense-filled life. Before formally becoming the King, King Saul was the King. Saul was jealous of him, and he continually sought to kill David.
A few weeks ago, I struggled at work due to several sick patients. This can create tension because of not knowing a clear discharge plan. At home, we are a home with a teenager in our home. Need I say more? At times tensions run high because goals are not matching.
Our nation is currently in turmoil. Tension seems to be in the very fabric of our news.
This is the week leading up to Easter; yes, a celebration is planned. Yet some preparation can cause tension in families.
Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. He wasn’t the King the Jews expected; He was later arrested. Tension fills the air.
The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:
“Hosanna!
‘BlessedisHe who comes in the name of the Lord!’
The King of Israel!”14 Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:
15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion;
Behold, your King is coming,
Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.
John 12:12-16
This began a tension-filled last week for Jesus. Jesus, Son of God, Son of Man.
What tension is in your home?
Prayer helps. Ways to combat tension are to read the Bible and to pray. Another way is to go for a prayer walk. Another way is to sing songs or hymns, you know.
Prayer
Father God,
Restore peace in my home. I know I have no right to ask, but I am asking. I feel the tension between my family members and feel helpless to change the situation, but I trust you. Thank you that you care for me. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
Reflection
What are you struggling with?
What do you do with the tension in your home?
