Beloved, our word is a threat. The word threat is in the Bible fourteen times. The definition is a statement of an intention to inflict pain, injury, damage, or other hostile action on someone in retribution for something done or not done.
Saul threatened King David. Saul chased him and wanted to harm him; he was jealous of David. As a result, David was often on the run hiding from Saul. In addition, King David had other enemies that threatened him, even his sons.
Sometimes a threat is neutralized by our actions. We see King David doing this often with Saul and trying to keep the peace.
King David’s Prayer
Consider Psalm 11
In the Lord I take refuge;
how can you say to my soul,
“Flee like a bird to your mountain,
2 for behold, the wicked bend the bow;
they have fitted their arrow to the string
to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart;
3 if the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?” [a]
4 The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord’s throne is in heaven;
his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.
5 The Lord tests the righteous,
but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
6 Let him rain coals on the wicked;
fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
7 For the Lord is righteous;
he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face.
Prayer
Father God
Create in me a clean heart. Search me and see if I have any anxiety or worry. Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank you for keeping me safe and removing the threats from my life. You are righteous and thank you that someday I will behold the face of Jesus, in Jesus’s name, amen.
Where has God kept you safe?
