Unpacking 31 Verses to Live By – Day 23
Beloved, of all the verses this verse is one to memorize. Often, I share this verse when someone is afraid or is struggling with fear.
We see Adam and Eve were afraid after they ate from the tree, “they were afraid and they hid from God.” Fear led them to the conclusion that they could somehow hide from God.
Shortly after God finds them, God gives the provision in Genesis 3 of the future Jesus.
And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush[b] your head,
and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3:15. NIV.
So what are your fears, I really don’t have many fears? Fear and anxiety kind of go together. God tells us to not be anxious,
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6. NIV.
The remedy is to give them to God:
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Psalm 139:23. NIV.
John teaches us about perfect fear and love.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18. NIV.
Lastly, God tells us not to be afraid,
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10. NIV.
We are to not be afraid, God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. I appreciate my sound mind the most.
Father God, You are an amazing loving God. Thank you for not giving us a spirit of fear but of giving us a sound mind. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
