Unwrapping the Names of Jesus -Day 17
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. John 10:11. NKJV.
Beloved, today the package before us is a beautifully wrapped box with a giant bow just waiting to be opened. May I share that I struggle to open packages and am not big on surprises, yet I love it when I get a gift? Once, I desired an eternity ring. This ring was a diamond for every year you were married. So, I left a picture of the ring for my husband every year for ten years of marriage, and I never received the ring. So one Christmas we had been married twenty years when I least expected it, I opened a large box to find a smaller box, to find a smaller package, and you guessed it, finally a ring box. I still have my eternity ring to this day.
Today, the name of Jesus we unwrap is Good Shepard. As a child, I loved the picture of Jesus holding the lamb. Additionally, the story of the lost sheep, Jesus leaving the ninety-nine and searching for the one. Are you the one that Jesus is looking for today? In John 10, Jesus is the Good Shepherd who gives His life for His sheep. He protects and knows their names. I love this chapter in the Bible mainly because no matter who you are, Jesus knows your name.
Beloved, sheep can be pretty dumb. That is why they need a shepherd. Today, my observation is that the world is hectic, and the world needs the Good Shepherd more than ever. So, will you do your part, start your day by reading the Bible and praying, join God and share the good news of Jesus.
Father God, lead, guide, and direct us as a Good Shepherd does by the still waters. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
How will you celebrate today the Good Shepherd?
