Unwrapping the Names of Jesus- Day 20
John saw Jesus coming toward him the next day and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:29. NKJV.
Beloved, every year at Christmas, I try to keep my eyes on Jesus and try not to get carried away with giving gifts to everyone I know but giving a gift is how I show a person I love someone. John the Baptist is the son of Elizabeth and Zechariah, and we read that this child was long-awaited for and his father could not speak until he named his son. We read the birth of John the Baptist in Luke 1, and his work unfolds in the book of John. Beloved, he proclaims the name of Jesus as the Lamb of God.
The Lamb of God is used seventeen times in the Bible. The first time Issac asked Abraham where the Lamb was for the offering was when God asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son. And the last is in Revelation, read with me.
for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 7:17. NKJV.
Just like my language of love is giving a gift, God’s gift to us is the Lamb of God.
Father God, thank you for the Lamb of God. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
What will you do with the gift of the Lamb of God?
