Jesus Calms The Storm: Mark 4: 35-41
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
A couple a weeks ago, at Laguna Beach, waves cracked and breaking in front of my friend Michelle and me. Surfing is part of the sport that day because the waves on the beach were cooperating and breath-taking all at the same time. The spray of water that would glisten on your face as the waves rushing towards the shores filled the air with laughter of children trying to out run the cold water. The bird landing seeing if there were any fish larva to eat.
Think back to a time when Jesus has determined to leave the crowd to go to the other side, the method of transportation is a boat, Jesus tired from a long day falls a sleep in the stern of the boat. The waves grow and grow, fear is natural when the waves are washing over the boat, and Jesus is sleeping through this occurrence. Finally, the fear was great , the waves were greater, a furious squall, a wave broke over the boat and they had to wake up their Jesus.
Beloved, what would you have said?
The disciples presented the problem, “Teacher, Do you not care if we drown?
Jesus takes care of the problem and amaze the disciples. Beloved, what are the waves in your life? a child that is struggling in school? a troubled marriage? homelessness? on the verge of being divorced? your grown children are leaving home soon.
Is Jesus asking you, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no Faith?
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Mark 4:41
