When I am afraid, I will trust.
Upon moving to Missouri, the thunderstorms and lightning awaken me from a sound sleep–when I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Our word is afraid, and the definition is feeling fear or anxiety; frightened. Afraid is in the Bible 214 times.
We have adrenal glands in our bodies that provide adrenaline-this hormone provides a fight or flight response to fear.
We see fear the first time in Genesis.
Adam and Eve had sinned. Adam and Eve hid from God because of what they had done. But God would not allow them to hide forever.
So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” Genesis 3:10.
The next time we see the word afraid, that is humorous–Sarah hears that she will have a baby, and she laughs. She denies it at first, but God calls her on her denial.
But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh!” Genesis 18:50.
Many times in the Bible, we read that someone was afraid. For example, Abraham was afraid; the people were afraid of Goliath, and we see the people were fearful after they left Egypt.
What are you afraid of, beloved friend?
My fears have been many over the years; I have suffered from chronic illness, migraines, and pain. Sometimes, I have questioned God, and I’ve prayed for the miracle, and as I grow older, I know that each time my headache improves, God works in my life.
The storms sometimes still provoke fear in my life, however, I have a safe room in our new house and I have a safe God to give my fears.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
Father God, Would you please let us live one day at a time, trusting you?
What are your fears?
