Today my sweet friend Dr. Michelle Bengtson asked this question in a video log, Who are you listening to?
Have you listened to voices in your head? You are not pretty. Why are you writing a blog? In 1 Peter 5:8, “We are warned to stay alert! The rest of verse says, watch out for your great enemy the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
Sometimes, I hear this voice in my head that says I’m not good enough but then I remember that I’m made in the image of God. In Genesis 1:26a then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.” In Psalm 139:14, the Bible says, “we are fearfully and wonderfully made.”
The recipe against Satan’s found in 1 Peter 5:9. “Stand firm against him, and be strong in faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.” In addition, it says in 1 Peter 5:6-7, “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God for he cares for you.”
Lastly, we are to take our thoughts captive to the Lord. It says in 2 Corinthians 10: 5, “casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
The litmus test’s in Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things.
Beloved, when we stand shoulder to shoulder in faith, I shouldn’t worry what you are saying about me. My job comes from God. To share his message about freedom in Christ. I shouldn’t listen to the voice I hear in my head telling me I’m not good enough to write about God’s love and the freedom we’ve in Christ. Because I can take that those thoughts captive to the truth of God’s word.
Who are you listening to? What statement are you hearing? Is it preventing you from doing something for God today?
Father God, I praise you for who you are. Let me hear only your whispers of love. In Jesus name. Amen.
